The Cal Ski Team was founded in 430 B.C.E. by O.G. shredder – Socrates himself. Then Chancellor Carol Christ took over (yes, she’s that old) and earned her turns right into the Common Era. Then it was Knight Harkin Banks III (predecessor to our later icon) who led our steezy team to glory. Even good ol’ Willy Shakes hucked a few cliffs for the team back in the 15th century (i.e. “To Ski or Not To Ski”). Quite a number of the gnarliest, steeziest, sickest people in history have been a part of the Cal Ski Team; that trend continues to this day.

We are a dazzling group of UC Berkeley-enrolled skiers and snowboarders hailing from hither and yon – SoCal, NorCal, the French Alps, the land of Swiss Cheese, Canadiana – and are currently being invaded by residents of a far-off land called “Colorado.”

The Cal Ski Team spends most of its time in the magical land of Lake Tahoe, California, home to our dearest mountains Alpine Meadows and Squallywood (Squaw Valley). You shouldn’t be surprised to find a group of us sending it on any day of the week and especially weekends.

We compete in the USCSA – the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association – of which we are long-time members. Our racers enter regional competitions in downhill, slalom, freestyle and more. Our ski and snowboard racers are definitely the sickest and typically place well in competitions, always making sure to leave the Stanfurd Ski Team in the dust, lost in our gnar sauce.

Above all, we are a family of outdoor-loving, snow-worshipping college students looking to high-tail it out of Doe Library on a Friday afternoon just to ride Squaw’s first chair the next morning. We’re the study-hard-shred-hard types of people, who just can’t get enough time in the mountains with our friends. We’re the ones who smile when it’s raining in Berkeley, because you KNOW what that means.

We didn’t all grow up skiing or snowboarding or racing; many hone our mountain skills for the FIRST time while on the team. But one thing is for sure: we’ve got a lotta love and a lotta steeze, and we’re WAY, way sicker than you.
