FAQs

Who can join the team?

Any active UC Berkeley student can join the team.  We accept both UC Berkeley grad and undergrad students.  Skiers, snowboarders, monoskiers, teleskiers and snollerbladers are ALL welcome.

ALL are welcome.

How good do I have to be?

Riders of all capabilities can join. We have a range of athletes who join – some who have never seen snow and some who are sponsored professional athletes.  Additionally, if you know how to ski but have never formally competed, no racing experience is required. It’s all about getting out on the snow and having a good time shredding the pow.

How much are dues and what’s included?

Dues are $550 per season.  This covers the cost of a cabin for the entire season. It also covers coaching fees, racing fees and hill space for training. We also receive Ikon pass discount codes, which go out to current team members.

Can I bring guests to the cabin?

If you are an active member who has paid their dues, you may bring guests to the cabin. We do ask for a ‘Friends Fee’ of $30 a night.

Is racing mandatory?

Racing is not mandatory.  We race in the USCSA conference against the likes of Sierra Nevada College, Stanford, UC Davis and others.  If you want to race, we highly encourage it as it is fun way to test your skills and have some friendly competition on the mountain – but it is in no way, shape, or form mandatory.

What does the team do during the off season?

During the fall semester, we prepare for the snow with weekly workouts, volleyball games, soccer games, fun runs and team bonding events.  The fall camping trip is widely known as the most fun you can have when there’s no snow has yet to fall.  Check out our calendar for more fun events!

I don’t have a car. How do I get to the mountain?

During ski season, we facilitate car rides to and from Tahoe every week using a very organized and easy-to-use Google spreadsheet. Members with cars try to fill up their car with teammates so there’s always a ride for you up and back to the mountain. If someone’s going to the mountain, chances are you’ll be able to swing a ride up there too.

How often do you ski?

Training camp is usually held during the last two weeks of winter break, and is the first time we are collectively in Tahoe as a team.  During these 14 fun-filled days we ski every day and receive coaching from professional athletes. We also rent hill space so we can do some gates-training and various other exercises to prepare for competition.  After training camp, we go up to the cabin every weekend until resorts close. We commit ourselves to as many days on the mountain as possible; however, no trip is mandatory and your season is truly what you make of it. Do you make lemonade or do you make GNAR? You decide.
